Sambar :

Ingredients

Thoor dal – 3/4 cup
Tamarind paste – 4 tbsp
Dry chillies – 2
Curry leaves
Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp
Shallots(small onion) – 10
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Tomato – 1
Cilantro( coriander leaves)- 1/4 cup
Asafoetida powder
Salt – 1/4 tsp.
Sambar powder – 2 tbsp.
Brinjal – 1/2 cup
Drumstick – 1/4 cup
Potato – 1/4 cup
Oil

Method

1. Rinse and pressure cook the thoor dal with 1/2 tsp turmeric,two cup of water,one teaspoon of oil and salt.
2. Once the pressure released,open and add tamarind juice,vegetables, sambar powder asafoetida powder and water. Simmer the sambar for 10 to 15 minutes stirring occasionally
3. Put one teaspoon of oil in a pan and add mustard seeds,cumin seeds,chilies, curry leaves,chopped shallots & tomato and saute until they’re tender. Pour the mixture into thoor dal & bring it to boil
4. Remove sambar from flame. Garnish it with chopped coriander leaves and serve it with hot cooked rice.
